Governance and Oversight
The Anglican Managed Investments Fund is administered through the Anglican Property Trust Diocese of Bathurst and operates within the governance framework established by Synod.
The Administration Ordinance 2023 assigns responsibility to Bishop-in-Council for the administration and oversight of diocesan funds and requires accountability and reporting to Synod. The Registrar also maintains responsibility for official records and documents relating to church trust property and diocesan administration.
This governance structure seeks to ensure that parish and trust funds are invested prudently and administered consistently with diocesan ordinances and the purposes for which those funds were given.
When Must Funds Be Deposited in AMIF?
Under section 8.1 of the Parishes Ordinance 2023, monies collected for capital purposes must generally be deposited with the Anglican Property Trust and invested through the Anglican Managed Investments Fund until required. This includes funds raised for:
- New buildings
- Building extensions
- Building renovations
- Property improvements
- Furniture, fittings and fixtures
- Parish vehicles
Unless otherwise determined by the Property Trust, these funds must be invested in the Anglican Managed Investments Fund and recorded according to their intended purpose.
Section 8.5 of the Parishes Ordinance 2023 also requires that bequests and gifts exceeding $1,000 that have been received for a specific purpose be deposited into the Fund within one month of receipt unless the funds are reasonably expected to be applied within twelve months.
In practice, parishes should generally deposit:
- Building funds
- Property maintenance reserves
- Capital works funds
- Bequests
- Memorial funds
- Trust funds
- Long-term ministry reserves
- Other surplus cash not immediately required for parish operations
